SHARING OUR BLESSINGS
Union Church was delighted to have Mary McElroy bring the message on
our Thank Offering Sunday. Mary has devoted many years of service to
Presbyterian Women as they worked to serve the Lord. Some of the women of
our congregation have had opportunities to learn as Mary presented Bible
Studies, workshops and most recently had a major role in the planning of
the Synod Gatherings at Waynesburg College. In June of 2008 Mary was
elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Women of the Synod of the Trinity.
As usual Union congregation was financially generous in their giving
to this special offering. Thank Offering programs are supported by gifts
from Presbyterian Women and their congregations around the United States.
Some of the programs benefiting from your gifts are - dental clinics for
children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned in South Carolina;
medicine to hospitals in Malawi and the Congo; providing nursing care to
terminally ill in Virginia; or purchasing and distributing mosquito nets
in Ghana. All projects and programs that receive financial support must
meet requirements that are consistent with the mission policies of the
PC(USA).
FELLOWSHIP WITH OTHER PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN
On November 8 the ladies from Union will travel to the Presbytery
office in the Northside to meet and worship as we combine all our Thank
Offering gifts. This is a good time of fellowship and learning.
If you have never worshipped, sang, and shared communion with several
thousand Presbyterians there is a great opportunity to do just that. From
July 11 - 15, 2009 the Church wide Gathering of Presbyterian Women will
be held in Louisville, Kentucky. During those four days you will have the
chance to see the theme of this gathering take life.. GOD WILL DO
WONDERS AMONG YOU is a promise found in Joshua 3:5 . Seriously
consider taking this journey with other women from our church and area. .
We are told that this is the last year for the Gathering to be in
Louisville where the headquarters of the PC(USA) is. As well as a time
for worship and learning we manage to squeeze in a ton of laughs and fun.
CHRISTMAS IS COMING
What a wonderful and busy time of year, both in church and
in our family. Presbyterian Women are not going to ask you to come out to
church some evening. Instead we are asking you to bring a Nativity Set to
church on December 14. We want to share all the various kinds of
Nativities we have collected over the years. What a glorious display we
can have in Fellowship Hall sharing favorite, unusual, antique, very small
or very large, modern, handmade, or Nativity sets purchased in some
special place. We will spend time after the 8:30 service and the 11
service admiring and talking about this grand way we remember the birth of
Christ and enjoying refreshments. So we are asking as you get you
Christmas decoration out of storage find one or more Nativity sets that
you would like to show your friends here at church. Watch the bulletin
for more information and
