Katrina Rebuild Project - March 3 - 17, 2007

Mississippi Home Rebuild

When you read this, approximately 35 people from Union should have finished our first week in Waveland, MS.  There will be a final list of the personnel in the bulletin on February 25.  I would ask that you do several things each day we are in Waveland.

Pray for God’s presence to be with us in traveling, working at the job site, and in our contacts in the Mississippi area.

Name each person and ask God to watch over them and to put His shield around them.

Ask God to watch over the Cato family and to help them renew their faith so they can be a good witness for Jesus Christ.

Thank God that as Union members, we are part of a caring and loving church and that we can be a good witness to those joining us on this mission trip.

Just how much candy can Union eat?

About $1,100.00 worth!  Union’s congregation should be congratulated as the Sarris’ candy, scarves, and baskets helped to raise a significant amount of money for the Mississippi House Build that our Mission Committee will be undertaking in March.  Additionally, a special thanks to a generous family who agreed to match dollar for dollar the donations bringing the total to $2,200.00!  This is a phenomenal effort that shows that God’s spirit is alive in the body of Union Presbyterian Church.  Please keep your prayers with the Cato family and the mission team who will be on-site.  Rest assured that your generous donations are going to a very worthy cause.

Sunday School Offerings Help Mississippi Rebuild

Each year the Christian Education Team decides to use the Sunday School offerings given by our children and youth for some special project. In the past we have donated our offerings to a scholarship for a seminar student, the Mercy Ships Mission to help provide medical assistance in various ports around the world, and purchases from Heifer Projects to supply animals to people in many parts of the world. At the end of the 2005 year we neglected to do anything with the offering from that year and so at the end of 2006 we had over $1600 in the youth offering account.  The offerings totaling  $1678.16 were given to the Mississippi House Build to help when the members of our church family go to build a house for the Cato family in Mississippi. The amount of money that the children and youth have donated would probably be enough to pay for the windows in the home. Our children can smile when they think that the Cato kids are looking through windows we provided to see the sunshine and even the stars at night.  We are so grateful for ways  God has blessed us and it is important that we teach our children to share our blessings with others.  Children and youth in our Sunday School classes are provided with envelopes to bring their offering to class.  If you need offering envelopes for Sunday School please let the office or George Shumek know.  Thank you parents for encouraging cheerful givers and training your children to be good stewards of what God has given them.

> How can you help?
In many ways.  You can pray for the mission team. You can donate money to help out - we need to raise  $40,000.  Or you can volunteer to go on the trip.  For more information, contact Glenn Hasulak or John Trinkala.
