Have you
ever looked around on a Sunday morning and wondered where all of our
kids have gone? We've been so blessed to have dedicated youth
ministry leaders and loving outreach to the local elementary, junior
high, and high school students. But where do those late teens and
early 20's folks worship and socialize? Would you like to help us
find out?
A dozen
people met in May to discuss ministry opportunities among college and
technical school students in our community. Did you know that the
Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is the largest provider
of education services in western Pennsylvania? CCAC has more credit
and noncredit students each semester than the universities of
Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon, Robert Morris, and Duquesne combined.
The new West Hills Center, just down the road from Union, is a
150,000-square-foot facility in North Fayette Township. It includes
modern classrooms, a fitness center, and student life services. It
also features high-bay areas for automotive, HVAC, welding, and other
trade-related programs
We're
also blessed to have the Pittsburgh Technical Institute (PTI) in our
neighborhood. PTI has career-focused associate degree and certificate
programs in business, computer/technical, health care, design, and
more. Students from all over the U.S. attend PTI, including the
180-acre North Fayette Campus in Oakdale. While PTI and CCAC do not
have on-campus residence options, their students don't always live at
home with their parents. Many live independently in apartments in the
Robinson area.
